Chilhowee Park Bandstand

Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

With the 2010 Tennessee Valley A&I Fair coming up soon, it’s a good time to reminisce about historic Chilhowee Park and its architectural influence on East Tennessee.

The last remaining original part of Chilhowee Park is the marble and stone constructed “Bicentennial Bandstand” originally built in 1910, which stands on a hill overlooking the old 14 acre lake in the middle of the park.  This old “gazebo” was constructed for the 1910 Appalachian exposition and was restored in 1976 by local businessman B. A. Morton Jr. and Lester W. Deaver in loving memory of their ancestors who were board members of the original 1910 Appalachian exposition.

The gazebo, bandstand is still used for musical performances at the Tennessee Valley A&I fair and other events at Chilhowee Park.

A replica of the gazebo was recently constructed at Lakefront Estates; a Watts Bar lakefront residential development nears Watts Bar Dam in Rhea County.  The developer of Lakefront Estates, Walt Dickson, says that he often admired the original one at Chilhowee Park when exhibiting cattle at the Tennessee A&I fair and wanted to copy it and preserve its memory.

Construction Everywhere!

There is a lot of construction going on at Lakefront Estates.  There is a barge at Lot 19 building a dock, Lot 5 is redoing their landscaping and irrigation, Lot 41 is already adding an addition, there is a house going up on Lot 12 and we just approved beautiful house plans for lot 14 & 27!  Busy, busy, busy!

Lot 44 sold!

Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

We sold lot 44 to a local family working at Watts Bar.  It’s a very pretty wooded lot with a lake view.  It does not sit directly on the water but they get a boat slip in the community dock.  It will make a magnificent home site!

Almost done…

Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Our spec home on lakefront lot 52 is just about finished.  We lack the basement floor and sealing the basement wall and a few things on the punch list.  Labdscaping is pretty much complete and looks good except its been hotter than usual on our sod grass!  Our decorator, Nancy Johnson, did great.  Everyone comments on her choices of colors and finishing details.

We’ll be posting some new pictures on the Lot 52 pagei nt he next few days.

We’re building again!

After doing a survey about lake homes to all of our email friends, we have decided to build a ranch style home on Lot 52. It will have an unfinished basement and great views of the lake! Check back for more details soon!

It snowed!

The snow sure is pretty as its the first snow here to last on the ground over a day since 1993. Lots of tree limbs breaking off so I guess we’ll be busy cutting firewood next week!
